Disc 1: Jumpstart Your Office
Disc one of the Jumpstart training series is designed to provide front office staff with a “hands-on” interactive training experience. Disc 1 will include basic information covering everyday skills and information used by professionals in an optical office.
Front Office Procedures
Section one will provide optical professionals with specific examples of successful front office procedures that will make a patient’s first impression of their optical practice, the best impression. Training content will include how to properly greet a patient, how to handle collections, and the importance of enforcing payment policies.
Telephone Techniques
A patient's first impression of an office is usually based on their experience speaking with a staff member over the telephone. Section two training content will include how to properly answer the telephone, how to address pricing questions over the phone, how to schedule appointments, as well as other productive phone etiquette.
Ocular Anatomy
In order to answer a question from a patient with confidence, each optical professional in the office must have a basic understanding of ocular anatomy. Section three training content will include a basic overview of the anatomy and how each part of the eye works together to create sight.
Basic Visual Diagnosis
Upon understanding the process of sight, it is also necessary that all optical professionals have an understanding of a few basic diagnoses. Section four training content in this section will include explanations for myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism.
Spectacle Rx
To knowledgeably answer potential questions from patients regarding their glasses, each optical professional should understand the elements a spectacle Rx. Section five training content will train staff members on what the difference between spherical, cylinder, axis, add, base curve, etc. is and how it affects clarity of vision.
Lens Styles
Section six will provide optical professionals with specific examples of lens styles available. Training content will include a list of popular lens styles including single vision, bifocal, trifocal, and progressives. The content will also include information on how the lens functions to correct the visual diagnosis for which it is used.
Lens Materials
In order to choose the lens material that is best for a patient, it is important that optical professionals understand the benefits and advantages of each lens material available. Section seven of the presentation will delve into specific information on lens materials and provide clear explanations and benefits of each.
Lens Coatings
A variety of coatings are available for lenses, each of them offering valuable benefits to the patient. Section eight will provide optical professionals with clear explanations of each coating so that they can help their patients make an informed decision in selecting the most suitable options for their lifestyle.
Proper Measurement Techniques
Section nine will provide detailed techniques for proper lens measurement. Animated examples will provide optical professionals with a clear “How to” explanation for fitting bifocals, trifocals, progressive lenses, and taking a PD measurement.
